A common and unsightly condition, it’s thought that over 50% of the American population over 50 years of age suffers from varicose veins to some degree; and they often are not just a cosmetic problem. They may be a sign of an underlying vascular condition known as venous reflux disease. This commonly causes people to experience leg discomfort, including swelling, itching, cramping, leg restlessness and other painful and unpleasant symptoms. In more serious cases it can lead to permanent skin damage, leg wounds and blood clots. Varicose and spider veins also can leave sufferers self-conscious about their looks and dissuade some from certain activities that might show these veins.

At Shore Vascular & Vein Center in Somers Point, New Jersey, Dr. Jeffrey Gosin and his expert team recommend the most effective, safest, least invasive state-of-the-art treatments to eliminate varicose and spider veins, based on each individual’s unique situation. They have performed thousands of successful procedures for over 25 years. To learn more, call Dr. Gosin to schedule your consultation or book online.

Your varicose and spider veins may not just be a cosmetic problem

While varicose veins are often visible on the surface of the legs, the real source of the problem frequently lies beneath the surface.  A very common cause for both visible veinsand their associated symptoms is a condition called Venous Reflux Disease. Venous reflux disease occurs when the valves in the leg veins do not function properly, causing blood to abnormally pool in the legs.  In addition to the development of unsightly veins, this condition can cause leg pain, swelling, itching, cramping, leg restlessness and other painful and unpleasant symptoms. In more serious cases it can lead to permanent skin damage, leg wounds and blood clots.

Venous reflux disease is caused by various factors. Some of the most common ones are family history of varicose veins, long periods of sitting or standing, pregnancy, being overweight and increasing age. This condition is easily diagnosed with painless, noninvasive vascular ultrasound testing.  While not a life or limb threatening condition, if untreated, venous reflux disease will often worsen over time.

We treat varicose veins at the source of the problem for the most complete long-lasting results possible

For venous disease treatment to be successful, it is essential to address not only the visible elements of the problem, but also any significant underlying factors causing the visible veins and/or associated symptoms.  Our IAC Accredited noninvasive vascular laboratory will identify venous reflux disease or any other significant vein problems. An individual treatment plan is then developed for each person to treat their problem at its source.

We offer various minimally invasive office procedures to treat the underlying vascular conditions, as well as the visible unsightly veins, in appropriate candidates.   Most procedures take 20 minutes or less to perform, have minimal associated discomfort, quick recovery, excellent results and low associated risks.  Details of some of the most common treatments and procedures can be found below.

Since venous disease is a medical condition, not just a cosmetic one, many treatments are often covered by health insurance.  Our insurance specialists will discuss this with you and obtain the necessary authorization for insurance coverage in appropriate cases.

As with any medical treatment, risks, benefits and results will vary from individual to individual.  The information provided here is meant to be general information only.  The specifics of your individual case will be discussed with you by the physician.
