Looking for a nonsurgical solution for visible spider veins? While spider veins aren’t dangerous to your health like varicose veins are, the blue and purple patterns on your legs can make you hesitant to wear shorts or skirts. Thankfully, there is a safe, proven solution that can literally dissolve spider veins and restore your even skin tone — and your confidence.

At Shore Vascular & Vein Center in Somers Point, New Jersey, Dr. Jeffrey Gosin and the rest of our team offer sclerotherapy to treat and diminish the appearance of spider veins. This is a fast, in-office procedure that can leave you with legs that look smoother, younger, and blemish-free.

The basics behind sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical procedure that has been around for almost 90 years. It can not only get rid of visible spider veins in your legs, but can also relieve related symptoms like burning, itching, or a feeling of tightness around the veins.

During sclerotherapy treatment, you’ll be able to lie comfortably and relax while Dr. Gosin injects the “sclerosing agent” into your spider veins. This solution affects the structural integrity of the spider veins, so they collapse in on themselves and seal off. If necessary, the blood flow is rerouted to other veins in your legs (although thi is more common with varicose veins) and your lymphatic system removes the traces of the old veins as natural body waste.

The original sclerosing agents used for this procedure could cause some discomfort, such as a burning feeling during treatment and in the days after. At Shore Vascular and Vein Center, Dr. Gosin only uses a newer and less reactive sclerotherapy solution called Asclera® (which is a brand name for polidocanol). It’s just as effective as older solutions, but delivers a more comfortable treatment process and recovery.

After your spider vein treatment

Once the injections are complete, Dr. Gosin will massage and compress the treated areas. It’s best if you can have someone drive you home, but then you can return to your regular activities. You’ll slowly see the spider veins start fading away, with full results visible after 3-6 weeks.

Don’t take any non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (common pain-relievers such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or naproxen sodium) for 48 hours. Also avoid sunlight on treated areas for about two weeks.

In 2017 alone, nearly 325,000 Americans had sclerotherapy treatment for spider and varicose vein removal. You could be next! If you live in southern New Jersey, just call our office at 609-297-5992 or use our online scheduler to book your appointment today.
