3 Reasons NOW is the Perfect Time for Varicose Vein Removal

When it comes to showing off your legs, visions of lying on the beach at the Jersey Shore or strolling down the avenues of summer Farmers Markets may come to mind. However, now, even in the dead of winter, is the perfect time to start considering varicose veins and spider veins removal. It might actually seem impractical or crazy to get the treatment done now, when you’re bundled up in layers of clothes to keep warm. Hear us out though. The lack of sun or warmth outside shouldn’t shy you away from treating your varicose veins. In fact, here are three reasons you should call Dr. Jeffrey Gosin at Shore Vascular & Vein Center to make an appointment now:

Get it over with

You may be thinking there’s no need to show off your legs until the temperature starts to rise. Fair enough. But you’re not the only one with that opinion, and come summer, our office tends to get busy. If you book your appointment for varicose vein removal now you can beat the rush that warmer weather brings. And you don’t want to be caught off-guard and invited to the first barbeque of the summer, only to feel self-conscious for another year in a row, because of your legs. If you take care of it now, you’ll be ready for all that summer brings without needing to think twice.

Be prepared for a spontaneous sojourn

Along the same lines, one of the best ways to beat the winter blues is to follow the sun to a tropical locale. Sometimes you’ll find a deal too good to pass up (especially during the off-season!), and if you get your varicose veins treated now, you won’t have to pass up on it! Who knows? Your smooth legs may even provide a little incentive for a sunny getaway.

Use it as an excuse for a day off

The treatment of varicose veins is an outpatient procedure, meaning you’re in and out of our office usually within an hour or less. On top of that, recovery time is minimal – you could even go back to work for a few hours after the procedure. However, we recommend using the day to relax and recuperate. Request the day off work, or clear your schedule for the day. Make your varicose vein removal appointment for the morning and use the rest of the afternoon for a little “me time.” Dine in at your favorite restaurant, or order take and out and settle in for a mini movie marathon. Because of the advanced treatment methods – like the Excel V Laser System, sclerotherapy, phlebectomy and the Venefit procedure – pain is also greatly reduced. And so while we don’t suggest you hit the slopes or go for a six-mile run on the treadmill immediately following your procedure, chance are, any discomfort you feel will be minimal enough you can still go ahead and enjoy the rest of your day.

Get ahead of the temps and make an appointment for varicose vein treatment by contacting Shore Vascular & Vein Center. Facial Spider Vein Removal

Looking past the fact that spider veins can sometimes be uncomfortable – they’re known to cause itchiness and burning sensations of the skin – the discomfort can escalate when you are faced with seeing them on a daily basis. Shore Vascular & Vein Center can help get your skin back to its pristine condition through a number of spider vein treatment options that will eliminate their presence and have you back to your confident self.

While spider veins commonly occur on the legs, they also can appear on the face and body as well. We can treat and remove facial spider veins as well as rosacea, cherry angioma, telangiectasia, and other vascular conditions so that you can once again be happy with the face you see looking back at you from the mirror.

We are proud to be one of the few centers in the region to offer Excel V Laser for the treatment of unsightly veins of the legs, face and body.  The system uses a unique high power laser that is absorbed by abnormal blood vessels in the skin.  The laser heats and eliminates the abnormal vessels, ultimately restoring normal skin tone and color.  Excel V can be customized to each patient’s skin type and condition, enabling precise and effective treatment.  Treatment sessions typically take about 20 minutes.  There is usually only mild discomfort associated with it and recovery is quick, with minimal downtime.

Call or visit us today for more information on treatment options and get your skin back to looking great.

Varicose Veins Explained

Before discussing the various varicose vein treatment methods available, we should probably first explain what varicose veins are and why people may be prone to develop them. In may cases, varicose veins, the protruding veins visible through the skin, are caused by a condition known as venous reflux disease. Venous reflux is the term used when the veins in the legs don’t function properly due to valve malfunction. While tens of millions of individuals in the United States alone experience some degree of venous reflux, many of them will not develop visible varicose veins in their lifetimes. Nevertheless, venous reflux is far more than just a visual issue. It is a vascular condition that can lead to skin damage, blood clots, pain and swelling.

Varicose veins occur when the veins used to return blood to the heart no longer operate properly due to the aforementioned valves not closing properly, leading to what’s known as valvular incompetence. This causes blood to pool in congested areas of the veins, which in turn cause the bulging protrusions in the skin.

When first noticing the development of varicose veins, there may initially be no discomfort involved. However, the condition is often progressive in nature.  It is not uncommon for it to worsen over time and result in symptoms above and beyond the initial cosmetic issues. These additional issues that arise after (or sometime before) varicose veins have become visible may include many painful and uncomfortable problems, such as:

  • Cramping brought on by sudden movements like standing up or starting to run
  • Venous eczema or stasis dermatitis, which brings dry, itchy skin as well as redness
  • Skin discoloration and textures near vascular protrusions
  • Swollen ankles, often worse toward the end of the day
  • A development of telangiectasia (spider veins) in the skin
  • Heavy legs and aching near the end of the day and after exercising
  • Scar-like skin growths around the ankles, usually white
  • Substances can build up under the skin and can harden and cause the skin itself to shrink – referred to as lipodermatosclerosis
  • Cuts and scratches can take longer to heal and bleed for longer periods of time
  • Night cramps
  • Leg restlessness

There are numerous causes of venous reflux. These include familial genetics, spending a significant amount of time on your feet, being pregnant, aging and being overweight.  However, some people will develop venous reflux and varicose veins without having any of these known risk factors.  While venous reflux really cannot be prevented, at Shore Vascular & Vein Center, we offer minimally invasive procedures for treatment of venous reflux and varicose veins.  We are also one of the few centers in the region to offer the award winning Excel V Laser for the treatment of spider veins and unsightly veins of the face and body.  In addition,  we are specialists in the treatments for peripheral artery disease, carotid artery stenosis, abdominal aortic aneurysms and more.

Shore Vascular & Vein Center - A Dedicated team

At the Shore Vascular & Vein Center, Doctor Jeffrey Gosin helps get rid of and diminish the presence and visibility of unsightly varicose veins. Doctor Gosin is Board Certified in vascular surgery as well as standard surgical methodologies, making him the best choice in the region for having vascular issues treated. The vascular system refers to the body’s veins and arterial circulation.  Both veins and arteries can be affected by various disease abnormalities.  Disorders of the veins are one of the most common vascular conditions that affect both women and men of all ages.  While the cosmetic aspects of venous disease are well known, what is not always as widely recognized is that varicose veins are often a sign of a potentially more serious vascular condition known as venous reflux disease.  This occurs when the valves in the leg veins, designed to keep the blood flowing correctly malfunction.  This causes blood to abnormally pool in the legs.

The staff members at Shore Vascular & Vein Center are all notably well-informed, extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and are well versed in all aspects of the Center.  This is always a welcome feature in medical settings. When the staff knows fully what is going on and why specific things are taking place, it instills a sense of security to the patient. And, being reassured like that is extremely important, especially in an environment where people are often learning about important health issues or preparing for procedures or surgery to get rid of varicose veins or address some other vascular issue.  A patient’s anxiety should never be made worse because a nurse or doctor wasn’t thoughtful.

That would never happen at Shore Vascular & Vein Center. The staff is composed of consummate professionals focused on providing comforting bedside manner, and always providing  answers to your questions.

Additionally, as technologies continue their rapid acceleration, problems previously requiring major surgery to treat can be successfully treated with far less invasive means. At Shore Vascular & Vein Center, this comes in the form of minimally invasive vein treatment, including laser for removal  of unsightly skin veins. As you might have guessed, the damaged veins can be removed by using a high-power laser system. When the laser hits the vein, the vein gets broken down. Then, over the course of a couple of weeks the original veins become less and less visible.

For those who require the services available at Shore Vascular & Vein Center but are concerned about the costs and insurance coverage, it is advised that you contact them at (609) 927-VEIN (8346) and discuss the various major health insurance plans that cover any or all of the services available at the clinic.  Their insurance specialists have a great deal of experience dealing with health insurance for vascular problems. Whenever you are ready to get started on any vascular work and help to get your blood pumping well, give us a call at the number posted above and we will be glad to set up a time for a consultation and discuss all of the options available to you regarding your issue.

When it comes to your circulatory system, don’t take chances.  Trust the Board Certified vascular surgeon of Shore Vascular & Vein Center.
